Anemone
Lacewood and Baltic Birch
12"(h) x 20" x 20"
The cells that make up lacewood are very flat which create a unique grain pattern rarely found in wood. When cut across the grain, the wood reveals a lace-like pattern from which it gets its name. When cut parallel to the flat cells and carved in an undulating form as I have in this piece, a stunning and very complex pattern is revealed.
This piece won a prestigious NICHE Award in 2003.
